CAROLINE WALLS

Caroline Walls, 'When We Were' 2022

CURRENT EXHIBITION:

MOTHERLOVER
13TH OF OCTOBER - 5TH OF NOVEMBER 2022

Installation View, MotherLover, 2022

Jerico Contemporary is pleased to present our second solo exhibition with Australian artist Caroline Walls, MotherLover. The show will open on Thursday the 13th of October and continue through to Saturday the 5th of November 2022.

In her latest body of work, Walls moves in a new figurative direction, capturing the quiet, unseen moments of life. Far from the gestural, abstract works she has become known for, this latest series see’s the artist make intimate paintings that thoughtfully and carefully capture the ordinariness and extraordinariness of the everyday experience. For Walls, the everyday is the beauty and tenderness of motherhood and (same-sex) marriage; and in each painting we see glimpses and moments of these two seemingly opposing forces, motherhood and sexuality come together.

Caroline Walls’ latest body of work for Sydney Contemporary Presents 2020 is an intimate meditation on various states of love, longing and identity. Having experienced contrasting emotions of chaos and calm as a new mother, these paintings see Walls lay bare expressions of her innermost thoughts and feelings. Forming part of the artist's ongoing exploration of the female form, these themes are at play with one another and refer back to her recent exhibition Resemblance.

‘RESEMBLANCE’
2ND OF APRIL - 25TH OF APRIL 2020

Using a restrained colour palette of neutrals, rich blues and earthly natural tones, combined with a deep consideration for the line and composition that makes up each artwork, Caroline Walls’ paintings hover somewhere between figuration and abstraction. Fluidity of form and heroic silhouettes loom, in a substantial yet tender light, emanating a nuanced reading of femininity.
